October 21, 2018 I have a 2009 Mac Pro (with 5.1 firmware) and this graphics card works great with the machine. Currently using with a Samsung 34” curved monitor (with thunderbolt).
I am using the HDMI output of the Sapphire and no issues at all. Except it does not pass audio. (Not a big deal to me, but it would be nice). I found a workaround to activate that feature but have not tried it.
Uses Apple supplied drivers, just plug it and and it worked. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from. Customer Videos.

Then one day I upgraded my system without upgrading the driver FIRST, that resulted in a devastating mess. It was a fairly quiet and very robust card, I like it a lot - but one slip up and you will be in a world of hurt. Now the HD 7950 is a little less cost, has only one fan which makes it sound louder, that can be a bit annoying if your computer is positioned on the desk. Function wise it is as good as you can get for the price range. This card handles two monitors with ease, check the specs for details.
The most important feature is that the drivers are built into the OS, upgrades and replacing components will have no effect on the operation of the card. I would recommend this item to a friend! The HD 7950 is plug and play. The drivers on the CD. are not needed because Mac OS 10.13 has integrated the drivers for the graphic card. Next step upgrade to OS 10.14. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from. Customer Videos.

Getting the Mac edition allows me to see the Mac boot sequence which is a huge bonus for upgrading components or future OS upgrades. Worked perfectly upon install no drivers required in high sierra. August 20, 2018 I wanted my aging Mac Pro (2010) to be Mojave-compatible. After chatting with Joe M., and viewing a couple online videos, I became convinced that I could install the new card myself. (I've done other upgrades myself, but I've never touched the video card before.) Ordered it, it came quickly, and I got out my tiny electronics screwdrivers and set to it. Somewhere, I had seen something that said I should be able to do the install in 15 minutes. Under 10, more like. The hardest part was getting one little slot cover to stay in place until I replaced the thumbscrew plate.
Put the cover back on, plugged everything back in, and it works. Couldn't have been easier. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from.

Unit works fine.
I liked not having to mess with drivers. While there may be newer and faster GPU's around this one is pretty sweet. I would recommend this item to a friend!

June 20, 2018 I replaced the old ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB video card with this Sapphire HD 7950 3 GB video card and all operation was just plug and play! I am using a Mac Pro mid 2010 5.1, OS X 10.13.5.
No need for modifications, install drivers, etc. Just removed one card and installed the new one. BTW, a tip for photographers like me using Capture One Pro 11.1.1, it works perfectly with Open CL hardware acceleration.

Verified Buyer Reviewer: AVguy Location: Europe Age: Over 65 Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 4/5 Works as expected with one exception March 20, 2018 Replacing a dead ATI HD 5770 card in my Mac Pro 5,1 I expected this card to give my graphic experience a boost.
Rendering in FCPX or using the stabilisation tool really got faster and the rest for me was 'just working again' as before. The exception that I didn't expect was that there was no sound going to my second monitor (a Sony TV) through HDMI anymore, although the specs on the OWC website stated even surround sound. Once I got over that fact this card is the only real replacement to put into a Mac Pro. Two things to mention: You don't need to install any driver (though the manual tells you to do so) and check that the very tiny switch is in the correct position (Mac not PC!).
Mine was NOT - glad I checked before installing it. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos. Verified Buyer Reviewer: FAAR Location: Austin, TX Age: 35-44 Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 4/5 great upgrade from the stock video card January 24, 2018 the Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition video card was a great upgrade from the stock video card in my mid-2010 MacPro. It just worked right out of the box. I didn't even need to install drivers on either of my 2 partitions. Running OS 10.13 on one and OS 10.8 on the other.

The addition of this card improved performance considerably.
This truly extended to life of my 2009 MacPro. This with other OWC upgrades, SSD Drives, Memory and USB 3.0 card have kept this computer humming for a very long time. There is a weird flicker every once and a while but the minimal annoyance is well worth the payoff. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Verified Buyer Reviewer: ScottP Location: Seattle WA Age: 45-54 Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 4/5 Good, with caveats July 27, 2017 The card is fast, too fast for in fact for Yosemite. You'll experience lags in streaming and other apps like Photoshop. Sierra has the appropriate drivers to make it work, so if you haven't already upgraded, you'll need to. I currently have it running two DELL 4k monitors, and its working wonderfully. Some photoshop lags I experienced with the ATI Radeon 5770 have gone away.

This card has triple the VRAM and the performance improvement is obvious. Renders video much more quickly. No drivers required.
It took longer to uninstall the NVIDIA drivers for the old card than it did to install this new one. A bit pricey, but worth it for my work. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from.

Well, what have we here? A new Mac Pro video card? What year is it?
Is at the CeBit trade show in Hannover where AMD partner Sapphire is showing off a Mac version of the Sapphire HD 7950 graphics card for the first time. In November, for the AMD 7000 series was discovered in a 10.8.3 beta. We speculated at the time that the added support was likely for future Mac Pro-level cards, and that’s exactly what Sapphire, one of the larger suppliers of AMD products, is showing off at CeBit. According to the report, the Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition is based off the original 7950 that packs in 850MHz Engine Clock (up to 925MHz with Boost), 3GB GDDR5 memory, 240GB/s memory bandwidth, and 1250MHz Memory Clock. PCGamesHardware said Sapphire plans to sell the Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition for $450. The report noted that the Mac Edition has been redesigned: Quite new is the hood, which approximates by milky white the famous Apple design. The cooler is based ansich on the AMD reference design, provides a radial fan in the rear, a large Vapor Chamber on the GPU as well as plenty of vents for heat dissipation.
On the slot panel both a dual-link DVI and one HDMI and two mini DisplayPort outputs can be reported. The well-known of the original HD 79×0 video cards BIOS switch on the top of the PCB is on board. The hardware of the Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition, the Windows version is similar ergo strong, we assume that the changes are mainly found in the BIOS. As a result of use in a Mac Pro is possible. Go below for a hands-on video of the Sapphire HD 7950 Mac Edition from CeBit.
